Founded in 1910, the Club was situated on the boundary between Hove and Portslade. However, in 1991, the building of the 'Brighton by-pass’ meant the Club had to relocate and it is now in the midst of the South Downs, in an area of outstanding natural beauty which may soon be designated a National Park.
The 18-hole golf course is laid out over rolling chalk downland and is a challenging par 70. Being in one of the warmest and driest parts of the country, coupled with the chalk terrain, the course is always playable.
The superb modern clubhouse caters for receptions, private functions and business seminars. The first class restaurant and bar both have panoramic views over the course.
The Club has its own 18-bay driving range which is open to the public and tuition from PGA Qualified staff is available for individuals or groups every day. Coaching and tuition is available to EVERYBODY - you do not have to be a member of this golf club.
In 2006 West Hove was proud to be the first Club in Sussex, and only the second in the country, to be awarded the prestigious GolfMark Award. This is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities.
Set on the South Downs in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with magnificent views of the English Channel, the WHGC 18 hole, par 70 course was the inspired design of Hawtree & Son.
The course, constructed to USPGA standards, has chalk-based fairways and well-drained greens and is complimented by a computerised irrigation system which allows it to remain open throughout the year. It measures 6253 yards and boasts a 617 yard par 5 18th hole which we claim to be the longest in Sussex, if not the country.
