About the Club

New Ross Golf Club is a magnificent USGA-standard greens parkland course. This 18 hole course course combines stunning scenery with a classic layout.

The back nine (old nine) is wonderfully mature with tree lined fairways some of which are well over 100 years old. The front nine (new nine), in play since 1995, was designed by Des Smyth (2006 Ryder Cup Vice Captain) and Declan Brannigan and is a fabulous example of modern design with old style golfing values.

The course is very pleasant, yet challenging, with superbly manicured rolling fairways. Our speedy greens have attained a standard of excellence and discerning visitors regularly tell us that they are amongst the best to be found around the country.

The choice of two tees on each hole provides the player with two very different tests of golf. The white tees total 5795 metres in length, with the yellow measuring 5568 metres.

Course management is essential as you plot your way around, avoiding the many bunkers and water hazards. Each hole presents its own challenge which can catch the unwitting golfer off-guard. We believe that players will particularly enjoy the very strong finish to the course on holes 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Shot making skills must be complimented with accurate club selection in order to post a good score and a steely nerve is essential to navigate the greens over the last couple of holes. Ireland can boast, fortunately, of many beautiful courses and links, but New Ross golfers will staunchly maintain that the view from this 11th is the finest panorama in the land. In the middle distance is the confluence of the Nore and Barrow and in the far distance lies the fifteen mile stretch of the Blackstairs Mountains from Dranagh to Mount Leinster, separating counties Carlow and Wexford.

New Ross Golf Club has been described as one of the driest inland courses in Ireland. The land the course occupies is gravel based thus ensuring superb natural drainage all year round. The sand based greens are built to the highest USGA specification and full greens are playable throughout the year. New Ross Golf Club remains open when many courses in the surrounding region are closed.
