Golf has been played on our down land course since 1896. Excellent drainage and professional maintenanceceof the course guarantee play all year round, always on the main greens and usually on grass tees. The elevated location of the course provides panoramic viewsof the Sussex countryside in all compass directions. The challenge presented by the 6190 yards course is enhanced by undulating fairways and greens and by the elements. Members and visitors have access to a five bay driving range and practice chipping and putting greens.
We believe Lewes Golf Club to be an outstanding venue. Let the facts speak for themselves:
Built on top of the downs it is the most scenic golf club in southern England with every hole providing stunning views of the Sussex Country side. You cannot fail to appreciate the walk even after an indifferent round of golf.
Perched on top of a massive drain (the South Downs); thus, we remain open when many courses are closed by rain. We have little mud even after extreme weather and the condition of our greens, tees and fairways are excellent throughout the year - we never need to use temporary greens!
A really friendly club. We have extremely varied backgrounds and come together because we all enjoy playing (or trying to play) the game in an extremely social environment. There is an extensive activity and competition programme which offers the newcomer who may have a few contacts plenty of opportunity to play golf. Newcomers quickly find that the temptation is to play too much.
The clubhouse was completely rebuilt in 1996 to provide members and visitors with a high standard of facilities including changing rooms, a lounge bar and dining room. Hot drinks are available in the lounge at all times. Snacks and meals are served by the catering staff throughout the day and the club sells wines, beers and spirits during licensed hours. Lewes is a friendly golf club. The membership of about 650 has within it a distinct junior, lady and senior sections. Members either play for personal enjoyment or enter competitions and fixtures. The secretary deals with enquiries on membership and society visits. The professional allocates tee times for members, regular non-members and casual visitors. If you have any comments or questions for the club please do not hesitate to contact us, we promise to answer all your questions.
