About the Club

Dunstable Downs Golf Club

The course is situated 2 miles south west of Dunstable on the Whipsnade Road on the crest of the Chiltern Hills nearly 800 feet above sea level.

The Downs are famous as a beauty spot and viewpoint with a panorama taking in 7 counties. The bracing air, the glorious downland turf and the richly varied character of the terrain make it an ideal spot for a golf course.

The Club dates officially from 1906 and today provides one of the best golf courses in Bedfordshire. The course is challenging and very well kept.

Directions

From the North on the M1, exit at Junction 11, turning right onto the A505 towards Dunstable. Follow the A505 until it meets the A5 at a double mini roundabout in the town centre. Continue straight ahead which then becomes the B489 towards the Downs. The Downs will be signposted after approximately half a mile. Turn left up the hill on the B4541 for about half a mile; the Golf Club entrance is signposted on the left.

From the South leave the M1 at Junction 9 and follow the A5 towards Dunstable. At B4540 turn left past Kensworth and Kensworth Common turn right onto the B4541. DDGC is on the right 200 yards past the Downs Visitors Centre. Alternatively, follow the A5 to Dunstable and turn left onto B489 and follow the instructions as above (coming from the North).

Courses & Scorecards

Dunstable Downs Golf Course

Dunstable Downs Golf Club provides an interesting challenge for golfers of all abilities. There are 18 holes over 6251 yards par 70. Holes 1 to 10 are parkland in nature; holes 11 to 18 along the top of the Downs are very "links" in nature.

The present layout was planned by James Braid and constructed by J.A. Stutt of Paisley (who also constructed the Championship Course at Carnoustie) in 1930. Originally 6,600 yards, the course today measures 6251 yards and features welcoming fairways requiring an infinite variety of approach shots to score well.

Thanks to the chalky subsoil the course is playable for most of the year and is always dry with fast, true contoured greens
