Barbaroux Golf Club is situated around an hour from Marseille and offers a very well looked after golf course, good club house and some good food.
Designed by American architects Pete and PB Dye who have given their characteristic signature, including the presence of railroad ties surrounding the lakes. The course is hilly and we would recommend that everyone uses a buggy if they can otherwise by the time you get to the 18th hole getting back to the club house is enough.
Having said that, Barbaroux may not be a particularly long course but its a very tactical course and local knowledge is definitly a benefit.
From the 1st you have a narrow farway to hit across a lake which just shouts "mulligan". When playing the 3rd hole you have no idea where the green is until you walk up to a mound only to see the hole some 50 meters below you. The 11th, 12th and 13th holes are excellent and throughout the round water comes into play on many a shot.
The final hole is a par 3, 210 yards long. I want to have another go at that one...The course is very well looked after with very fast and responsive greens.
Within the Rivera region, Balbaroux is one of the best golf courses to be found. Its currently rated 8.2 on the Mulligan+ rating.
