We used to live in the United Arab Emirates and actually lived in one of the houses overlooking the 12-tee in Al Hamra. The course design is pretty good and the clubhouse, food, service and environment is excellent … a notch down on Dubai, but that’s is its charm.
If you do visit, take a visit to the Belgium Beer Cafe and stay for the night in the Hilton or the Waldorf Astoria if your budget allows. It’s a perfect place to take your foot off the gas a little.
I was lucky to move to Lisbon in December and rocked up to play the Oitavos in March 2020 before the lockdown.
With the wind and a little rain at times, the course still played brilliantly even if at times, it did feel long with the wind. Some memorable Par 3’s especially on the back 9 and a great variety of holes throughout the round.
It almost feels like a links course but is not a “links” by definition. But if you get the ball onto the fairways, they do run and stopping the ball on the greens can be a bit of a challenge with the wind as well. A great golfing challenging and really hoping to get back out soon and play a little better next time!

There is not much more to say about Kingsbarns except that everyone should play it. It is one of those great courses in the world where the mixture between the course and the club is spot on.
