We think this is one of the most attractive, and enjoyable courses in the region, while not being too demanding and not necessarily making anyone’s ‘top-10 in the world’ list. \ It sits at the edge of cork and pine trees and was, from its opening in 1991 to a design by Antonio Garrido, just nine holes, before being augmented five years later by the course’s own staff, with an extra nine. \ The layout follows the contours of two valleys and both the fairways and greens are usually in excellent condition – among the best in Spain. Elevated tees mean that the challenge ahead of you is always easy to see and there is a good mixture of holes, from tight and strategic, to open and long. \ You will particularly enjoy the scenic 11th, where the green sits alongside a lake and waterfall. \ Santa Maria Golf & Country Club is located east of Marbella near Hotel Don Carlos at the Costa del Sol in Spain. \ Opened in 1991 Santa María Golf previously was a 9-hole golf course designed by Antonio García Garrido. After finishing the second nine, designed by it's own technical staff, 5 years later in 1996 the golf course is now sited in two valleys in the hills in a surrounding with beautiful views. The golf course is not too difficult to play with its wide fairways particularly on the back nine. Besides golf, the Santa María Resort offers other facilities like tennis courts, swimming pools and the Santa María Bowls Club, an official bowls club.
