Los Naranjos opened in 1977 and is regarded as a sister club to Las Brisas, having been designed by the same architect and being owned by the same developer. Trent Jones has always considered this to be one of his finest creations but sadly, it became rather shabby before recent major refurbishment and investment, including a computer controlled irrigation system, brought it back to its considerable best. The two nines offer a considerable contrast, with the outward half featuring wide, rolling fairways, while the inward stretch has to negotiate its way along much narrower fairways through orange groves (from which the course derives its name). From the white, or competition tees, it is regarded as one of the toughest tests in the region and its par five finish, with palm trees and a pond to be avoided, illustrates the difficulties in a nutshell.
