Unplayable Lie - Rule 28

A Golfer may state that his ball is unplayable at any place on the golf course except when the ball is in a water hazard. You, as the player are the sole judge as to whether the ball is unplayable.

Unplayable Lie Rule 28

If you decide your ball is unplayable, you must "under penalty of one stroke"

  1. Play a ball as near as possible to the spot from which the original ball was last played

  2. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directory between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped: or

  3. Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay but not nearer the hole.

If the ball is in a bunker, the you must proceed under Clause 1,2 or 3 above. If you elect 2 or 3, a ball must be dropped in the bunker.

Penalty for Breach of Rule

Match Play - Loss of hole;
Stoke Play - Two Strokes
