The Old Course at St Andrews is not usually an instant hit and many say it takes a few visits to get to know it and love it.
Not the most difficult Open venue course by any means but with 7 double greens that can leave putts of well over 50ft and over 100 bunkers the Old Course is a test of hallowed golfing turf.

Many would say that the Alisa Course is probably the most scenic Open Championship course and oftern referred to as Scotland's Pebble Beach. With the lighthouse and the rugged shoreline holes, its one of the most instantly recognisable courses in the world.
The first three holes may lull you into a false sense of security but from the 4th to the 12th, the course throws everything at you and well then there is the finish.

Muirfield is the course of "The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers", the world's oldest golf club formed in 1744.
The design layout is a materpiece and highly unusual for links courses back at this time. There are some fantastic hole, nasty bunkers and the greens are relatively small making approach shots tough. Great golf if you can get a tee time and being male sadly helps with that.

Perhaps one of our favorite courses. Beautifully designed on the coast just south of St Andrews, Kingsbarns is a classic feel modern course.
Everyone can enjoy the course from high to low handicap players with a great risk and reward in play on every hole. Wonderful sea views from every hole and great golf to be had by all.

Host to the Open on no less that 8 times, on a clear day you can see the distant Ailsa Craig in the south and the Isle of Arran in the west.
Royal Troon is the most recent club to recieve the 'Royal' prefix in 1978. With the wind always in play, treacherous bunkers, tight fairways and punishing rough its one of the most testing links in the British Isles. The most famous hole is the 'Postage Stamp' named following a description of the putting surface by Willie Park.

If you had to choose one course that summed up the beauty and challenge of Scottish Golf, then Loch Lomond would be No1. With its lush fairways, beautifully cared for greens and everything frammed by mountains and the loch.
Playing Loch Lomond is not very easy however unless you are a member or invited by a member. For most of us, their website is the closest we will ever get.

Royal Dornoch is spellbinding and if it was not situated so far north, it would be an Open Venue. It sites on the most natural and tranquil coast where the Firth of Dornoch meets the North Sea.
Tom Watson in 1981 said "Its the most fun I've ever had on a golf course" and lets say that with lighting fast raised green's and rolling fairways, its a fantastic destination for golfers to escape.

Carnoustie is a big natural seaside links and it is still considered to be one of the most difficult courses in the British Isles, if not in the world.
It does not have the natural stunning settings of many of the top courses, but with some masterful bunkering and one of the toughest finsihes from the 14th home, keeping your eye on the course may be the best thing you can do.

Cruden Bay is an inspirational golf course, regarded by some as quirky and considered by others as a masterpiece.
Over and through huge sand dunes, this has some of the most entralling and technically demanding holes of any course.

The course is a traditional monument to golf. With holes that snake their way through rugged dunes its a second shot course as you can not spray it around off the tee.
The main test here is the greens whcih are tilted, undulating, small and protected.

A traditonal links laid out by Old Tom Morris. The first hole is often referred to as the best 1st Hole of any course and against a stunning background its breathtaking.
The course is always immaculate and with a great variety of holes, with excellent fairways and lightening fast greens, its a fantastic test of your all round golf.
