» Bunker Distance Control | Getting the Distance Right

Getting the ball out of the bunker is one thing, but being able to control the distance is another. Garry shows us how to keep the back swing and the rythm the same but by just shortening the follow through, we can start controlling the distance.

When stricking the ball in the bunker, always remember to focus on a point about 2 cm's behind the ball. You want the ball to come out on a cushion of sand when playing in bunkers around the green.

» Short Distance - short follow through

The first phase of building a swing is to get the club moving back so that it's parallel to the ground - at 9 o'clock. Then moving through to a mirror image on the other side at 3 o'clock. There is very little wrist movement at this stage.

» Long Distance - full follow through

Once the back swing is fully wound up, its combining simultaneously a slight lateral movement and a rotational movement which unwinds the swing through impact.
