About the Club
The unique Waterford Castle Hotel and Golf Resort features Ireland’s only true Island golf course resort. The course is completely detached from the mainland and is perhaps, the only golf course of its kind in the world to be accessed by means of a private ferry.
This wonderful parkland golf course sits on a privately owned 320 acre Island which is also home to the world-renowned Waterford Castle Hotel. Designed by Des Smith, former Ryder Cup player and current European Senior Tour member, and opened in 1992, this 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course leads players through mature woodland and parkland. The course itself runs to 6,814 yards, off the medal tees, and covers an area of over 200 acres. During construction, particular attention was paid to maintaining as many of the old plantations as possible.
Despite being completely surrounded by water, the golf course boasts an additional four internal water features at the second, third, fourth and sixteenth holes and can even lay claim to having its own Swilken Bridge although it is one that was constructed long after the fall of the Roman Empire. The course layout reveals attractive rolling fairways and subtle contoured greens, set within this unique Island haven.
