About the Club

Although the 18-hole layout is the one we will feature, because Trevose is located in the holiday county of Cornwall, the fact that it also has a challenging nine-hole course and a short course for beginners, makes it easy to recommend for all levels of golfer.

The main course, opened in 1925 to a Harry Colt design, and has the classic two loops of nine but here they have a distinct and separate character. The outward half hugs the coastline and meanders through dunes and sandhills while offering some superb views to sea.

The inward half still feels like a links course underfoot but also has an inland quality. Fairways are generous, greens usually in superb condition and the bunkering is restrained so you may have a good chance of posting a pleasing score – unless and until the wind blows, which of course, it does most of the time.

60th Best UK Golf Course

There are challenges and enjoyment for every golfer as each of the three courses blend effortlessly into the natural and unique landscape. The experience of playing here is certainly enhanced by the North Cornish coastline with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, wide sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs.

The "Championship Course" was originally laid out by the internationally renowned Harry Colt and is a true test of golfing skill. With its Links origins a different course is guaranteed everyday, punishing bad shots but rewarding the good. With traditionally quick greens all year round, quality golf is available twelve months of the year.

The "Headland Course" is the ideal alternative if the Championship Course is busy or you would like a quiet nine holes on your own. Opened in 1995 by Peter Alliss with a par of 35, this course is a good test with a challenging layout and fast greens.

The "Short Course" was built in 1965 and is available for beginners, juniors or those wanting to refine their short game. A beautifully laid out course runs around streams, over hills and detours past the ruins of the 5th century Roman Church and the 2nd century St. Constantine's Well, which was still in use until 1568

Courses & Scorecards

Championship Course

The Championship course was laid out by world renowned golf architect Harry Colt in 1924 and officially opened in 1925. At the time of designing Trevose, Colt was already responsible for the design of many other courses, some of which are Augusta, Pine Valley, Sunningdale, Royal Portrush, Muirfield and Wentworth. We are not sure what attracted Colt to Cornwall as it was his only work in the South West although it is rumoured that the extreme beauty of the Cornish coastline and its topography enticed him to the area. The course has four sets of tees, blue (championships), white (club competitions), yellow (mens day) and red (ladies day). Each tee offers a varying amount of difficulty.

As with all of Colts designs the course is in two loops of 9 holes with the front 9 holes hugging the sand dunes and coastline and back 9 forming inland links, however the sea can be seen from every hole.

As with all links golf the difficulty is with the wind, guaranteeing the golf course plays differently almost every day. The greens are quick all year round and the course guaranteed to be in great condition 360 days a year. The fairways are tightly cut and the rough penal in places, but fair, along with many strategically placed bunkers that are ready to swallow up golf balls. Trevose ensures you use almost every club in your bag and the experience is memorable, hence the number of top amateurs and professionals that choose to play the course and keep returning.
