About the Club

Our review

Located nine miles from St Andrews, Kingsbarns only opened in 2000 but in that short time has established itself as one of the best and scenically beautiful courses anywhere.

Yet it is playable, and enjoyable, by all standards of golfer. The quartet of holes from 12-15 stands comparison with any stretch in the world, comprising a par five that hugs the shoreline, a short but tricky par three, a short and cunningly bunkered, driveable par four and a par three over water that is rapidly becoming one of the most photographed holes of all time.

There is a comparative absence of bunkers and gorse but the large, undulating greens offer a stern defence. Always in superb condition because it closes during winter, Kingsbarns is, simply, magnificent.

Kingsbarns Golf Course

"Kingsbarns Golf Links is without doubt the best new golf course I have ever played with views of the sea from every hole complimented by a decision-making and strategic layout. It's traditional golf at its best and I don't think you could ever tire of playing such a magnificent Links. Kingsbarns in my opinion, is one of the great golfing experiences in the world". - Sandy Jones, Executive Director of the PGA

There is not much more to say about Kingsbarns except that everyone should play it. It is one of those great courses in the world where the mixture between the course and the club is spot on.

I have been lucky enough to play the course 3 times and every time without a doubt, I get that "wow" feeling.

To score well, you need to play very well as it does not give anything away. There are some great risk and reward holes which appeal to every golfer but while the fairways allow for all levels to enjoy the the round, you need to play in the right part of the fairway to play well as the greens are well protected and large.

The 12th to 15th holes are just magical, playing out along the coast and back in. And the 18th is a beautiful finishing hole in full view of the club house. The approach is tough and I have taken 2, 3 and 4 putts on that last hole.

The club house is also a real treat as its more like a pub. Portions are healthy, ambiance is alive and just for a few hours, things could not get much better.

Last Played: 09 September 2010.
