About the Club

Visitors are usually enthralled by the magnificent views from the clubhouse. The large picture windows in two of the lounges and the dining room look out over the 18th green to the rolling countryside beyond. It’s hard to imagine the bustling centre of Leeds is just a few minutes’ drive away.

The original bungalow-style clubhouse was completed in 1906. Since then there have been a number of sympathetic extensions to ensure the facilities remain modern and comfortable while retaining the traditional golf club ambience.

Headingley offers all the facilities that the visiting golfer would expect. There are three lounges, each with full bar facilities, and the dining room caters for parties large or small. Changing facilities are spacious and have been recently refurbished to a high standard.

Our catering staff, led by our Steward, provide everything from morning tea or coffee and bacon sandwiches to tasty lunchtime sandwiches or hot meals and delicious three-course dinners in the evening. He is always ready to cater for visiting parties individual needs.

The club has a reputation for its friendliness offering a hearty welcome for visitors which ensures an enjoyable days golf followed by excellent food and drink to round off the experience.

Our membership enjoys a lively and varied social calendar ranging from bistro nights to dinner-dances and various other entertaining evenings such as quizzes, wine tastings and tribute nights.

Headingly Golf Course

At the turn of the 20th century when the club's first members set eyes on a piece of heath and farmland alongside the picturesque Norman church at Adel they had the vision to see a golf course set out on natural rolling terrain.

They made the dream a reality, fitting the holes into the contours of the countryside. Dr Alister Mackenzie was called in to advise on alterations to Headingley just before the First World War. His ethos was that a course should "have a spirit of adventure" and he certainly put that theory into practice.

Although Headingley has undergone changes with holes redesigned, moved and upgraded the original concept has remained the same.

Today's course is a challenge for golfers of all abilities; the rolling terrain and slick greens make it a testing but always an enjoyable challenge.

There is an abundance of wildlife, pheasant congregate and the odd deer wanders across the fairways. All kinds of waterfowl fly over en route for Eccup Reservoir. And watch out for the majestic red kites, which often hover above the course.
