Courses & Scorecards

Torrance Course

The Torrance Course, designed by the late Gene Sarazen and winning Ryder Cup Captain, Sam Torrance, is a par 72, 7037 yard course that sweeps its way around the hotel and down to the coastal edge. It has been designed using the principles of links golf with an infusion of new styles. The natural contours of the land and the dramatic coastal setting are combined with a unique blend of Rye grass, innovative green-keeping skills and the expertise of winning Ryder Cup captain, Sam Torrance. Immediately the game begins by testing the golfer with challenging bunkers, undulating fairways and greens, and the occasional meandering stream making precision and club selection paramount. As the course advances it works its way around the imposing structure of the hotel before bursting open to reveal a cross section of the remaining twelve holes down towards the cliff edge and all the while framed by the powerful canvass of the St Andrews skyline. The deceptive back nine creates uncertainty for the golfer with holes such as the tricky par 3, 15th with the green surrounded by a protective dry stone wall and steep sloping edges leading to deep, sunken bunkers. Then its onto the par 4, signature 17th, out of bounds running parallel with the coastal trail down the entire right hand side of the hole, before sharply cutting across the front of the green, itself guarded by bunkers and with the prevailing wind, the approach is fraught with anticipation of the final score.

Kittocks Course

The Kittocks Course at Fairmont St Andrews is not your typical second resort course. Its long, Par 71 at 6752 off the whites and it features some very tough but really enjoyable holes.

Since the redesign, the old Par 3 18th is now the 16th, and the closing holes include the 17th Par-4 445-yards and the 18th Par-4 440-yards, just to put that sting in the tail.

The course starts fairly gently before the 4th Par 4 447-yard hole gets the round into full swing. The 7th and 12th are fantastic driving holes but with well placed bunkers, well defended greens, its a very tough challenge.

A real pleasure and equal to the Torrance Course in quality and enjoyment.

Read Review

Since the Torrance course underwent some changes, the course is much better. Rather than finishing on a Par 3, which has now become the 16th, the course is well balanced with a really testing finish.

It is perched on the side of a cliff with beautiful views and with revetted bunkering and a Scottish style links design, it reputation is growing.

The club house and service is excellent. The food and beverages are all good, a little on the expensive side, but that is to be expected from a high profile destination. The practice facilities are high quality so I would definitely recommend it.

Last Played: 24 April 2012.
