Set in over 500 acres of rolling Devon countryside, the Ashbury Golf hotel is one of the most facilitated golf hotels in the South of England. In total there are 5 eighteen hole golf courses - Oakwood, Pines, Beeches, Willows and our new course Kigbeare. In addition there is an 8 bay undercover driving range, an 18 hole putting green, and a chipping and putting practice area.
The courses occupy a lightly wooded parkland setting, in rolling countryside on the foothills of Dartmoor National Park. Extra hazards have been added to the natural ones already present, with dozens of bunkers and eighteen lakes making play even more of a challenge. The courses are open throughout the year, with many of the holes having purpose-built alternative greens, allowing for changes when the weather dictates. All the courses are well marked with many helpful hints given during your round.
The 10th hole is the most talked about hole of them all. A 375 yard par 4 that doglegs to the left and drops 180 feet from tee to green. Club selection is all important, with many people taking an iron from the tee to find one of the 3 plateaux. This leaves an approach shot of approximately 150 yards to the pin. Only the brave take a driver, but just about everyone walks off the green wanting to go back and play the hole again. The 18th is an excellent 152 yard par 3 finishing hole. The tee shot is all carry to the stepped green, with 3 ponds waiting to swallow up any shots short of the target.
The Kigbeare Course also boasts stunning views. To the south, the panorama of Dartmoor displays the rugged beauty of one of Englandýs finest National Parks, with Yes Tor dominating the horizon. To the east, the lush green beauty of Devonýs farmlands completes the milieu.
Construction started in November 2004 with the greens and tees being built first.
The third hole is a dramatic par 3 of 205 yards from the white tees. The hole drops approximately 50 feet to a large green surrounded by trees and protected by a brook running around the front of the green.
The sixteenth hole is another breathtaking hole. A 546 yard par five. After teeing off over a large pond, the fairway runs uphill to a tree in the middle of the fairway then drops down approximately 100 feet to a well guarded green.
