Course Review
Benoni Lake Golf Club, Lakefield Avenue, Benoni, Johannesburg / One of the four large expanses of water that form a chain through this East Rand municipality is known as Middle Lake, and it is on the shores of this lake that the Benoni Lake golf course is found. THE GOLF COURSE A major road runs through the course, neatly separating the two nines on this 18-hole, par-72 parkland layout. The outward loop is above the road with the back nine or "Next-to-the-Lake" nine below it, next to the water. Because of the water's proximity, Benoni Lake's closing stretch of holes from the 15th through to the 18th provide a rather stern finish to a round. The lake runs parallel to the par-five 15th, while at the 16th, a par-three, and the 17th, a tough 419 metre par-four (depending on which tees are used), the golfer must tee off over part of the water. Middle Lake is not in play at the par-four 18th, but a man-made pond has been built to the left of the green and the approach here is definitely a demanding one.
