About the Club

Addington Court Golf Centre is home to arguably the most comprehensive golfing facility in southern England. With 45 holes, two golf shops, a fleet of buggies and a 32 bay floodlit driving range.

Addington Court Golf Centre has it all. All you have to do is chose which courses to play and when!

The challenging Championship course was designed in 1932 and has the feel of a long established and challenging course.

If you don’t feel quite up to the demands of the 9 hole course or the Championship course, why not try the 18 hole Falconwood course that will test your golfing skills.

Directions

Leave the M25 at Junction 6 and take the A22 towards Purley. Just before Purley turn right onto the A2022 and follow for 1.5 miles to Sanderstead roundabout.

Go over this roundabout and continue for another 1.5 miles, passing through the traffic lights.

At the next main set of traffic lights, turn right into Featherbed Lane. Addington Court Golf Centre is located 0.5 mile on the right.

Courses & Scorecards

Championship Course

The original course was built over 75 years ago as an 18 hole Championship course. During the mid 70s the 18 hole Falconwood course was added with the academy course installed shortly after that. The Championship Course offers a stern challenge as the name may suggest. A gentle par 5 opening hole that requires a straight hit from the tee, aimed towards the right of the fairway. Everything gathers to left, and for medium to long hitters its worth taking the green on. Risk and reward is the name of the game here with out of bounds all down the left. The 2nd is a long par 4, slightly uphill to a huge undulating green. You need to be aiming at the right hand side of the fairway as once again everything will fall to the right. A par is a good result here.

The 3rd is the recently remodelled par 3 measuring 135yds from the yellow tee. This hole may be short but accuracy is the key here. Anything left and youll disappear down the hill. Anything right and you will connect with one of the large beech trees and fall short into the bunker. This is a truly beautiful hole. Take your par and run. The 4th and 5th holes are reasonably forgiving par 4s. the 5th needing a straight drive or out of bounds looms down the left. If you pull the tee shot left you could be in the trees. Fairway bunkers await anything short in the rough.

The 6th hole goes by the name of Farliegh leap and as the name might suggest is down hill all the way. On a good day you can get close off the tee. If you are short off the tee you will be left a perilous shot from a downhill lie over a huge bunker that guards the green from anything short or miss hit. From the tee it looks a doddle, from the rough it can damage your score. Be warned.

The 7th hole is the reverse of the previous hole, uphill all the way. This par 4 is appropriately named Everest. The long but narrow green is probably the hardest green on the course to hit and has the shape of an up-turned saucer for good measure.

The 8th hole is a downhill par 3 of 160yds. The tee is guarded from the cross winds that blow across the hole on any given day. club selection is crucial. Two large green side bunkers swallow up anything drifting long and right. Thick rough guards anything to the left.

The 9th hole is a 380yd par 4 across the slope, running along side the 1st. aim your tee shot well left and allow the left to right sloping fairway carry your ball to the right side of the fairway. Your second shot will be from a hanging lie either from the fairway or from the rough. Good luck.

The back 9 is more of the same and although not particulally long, the mature trees and sloping fairways will ensure you are tested all the way. Remember, everything slopes towards the road.

Some great holes mixed with some more average layouts. The 6th down the hill is one of my favourite holes in the area.

The aspect of the course I find most testing is the often uneven fairways. It feels like you play 75% of this round with the ball above or below your feet.

Greens average.

Favourite Hole: 6
