Course Review
Romsey Golf Club is situated on the road from Romsey to Southampton at Nursling, just a short distance from junction 3 of the M27. The course measures 5,856 yards from the white tees with a standard scratch of 69, is extremely well wooded, with narrow fairways and relatively small greens. To refer to it as a parkland layout would be something of an understatement.
The terrain is varying with slopes and rolling fairways, well bunkered, with some subtle changes of elevation to add spice to your round. Just to play at Romsey is pleasure enough for some, but if you want to score well make sure you bring a straight and accurate game. The round starts with a gentle par 4 but the golfer does not have to wait long for the test to begin with the 2nd a tough climbing tree lined par 4. Romsey has its equivalent of "Amen corner" with the 5th 6th and 7th holes. Two very demanding par 3's surround the signature hole, a 455 yard journey down a winding valley to a small elevated green. A spectacular hole with a truly magnificent view and fully deserving its status as stroke index 1.
The back 9 commences with a short but tricky par 3 followed by a run of excellent par 4's, with a number of dog legs, culminating with the 18th, the only par 5, all uphill back to the clubhouse.
