The Mulligan+ Club Guide for North Downs Golf Club
North Downs Golf Club (Unmanaged)
Would you be interested in a golf break or holiday?

Enjoying it's Centenary Year in 1999, the first thing to notice at North Downs is how the climate can differ compared with places quite locally. The clubs location, high on the downs, often means that the course can be basking in sunshine when all around at lower elevations, might be gloomy, less pleasant conditions. Conversely, the opposite can sometimes, but not often, also prevail.
The course is situated at up to 850ft above sea level and is one of the highest in the Country offering spectacular views to those golfers who enjoy the extra pleasure of such surroundings.
Founded in 1899, with the Club formed six years later, the original 9-hole course survived many rigours for 66 years when a further 31 acres were acquired. This allowed additional holes to be constructed turning the course into the challenging 18 hole layout that exists today. At 5843 yards, with a par of 69 and a Standard Scratch of 68, the course is not long but compensates by demanding a considerable amount of accuracy and thus provides a good test of golfing ability. Despite its location, most holes offer a flat or gently sloping prospect with only the 17th having anything like a severe slope up to the green. The real challenges can be the quick pace greens in the summer and keeping the ball in the right place for the next shot.

The original Clubhouse was built for the costly sum of £250. The existing clubhouse was completely rebuilt in 1990, the result of which is a very comfortable building with well equipped facilities for members and visitors to enjoy, which has managed to retain its character which visitors will remember.

This is a Club with a 'friendly' reputation and a busy and well supported social calendar in which all members are encouraged to participate. Junior members are also well catered for with a Junior Organiser arranging regular competitions and inter-club matches.

Applications for membership are always favourably received and will be quickly responded to. Membership packages can be obtained from the Secretary/Manager on request.
