The Moatlands Manor House has had a long, but little known history. The estate was first mentioned in the Anglo Saxon charter dating from 759-765 AD, and again in the Inquisition Post Mortem of 1437 and 1439.
The present Manor House was built in the 19th century and was formerly the home to the Lord Mayor of London. In 1944 it was used as a reserve hospital and later a maternity home.
