The Mulligan+ Club Guide for Huntercombe Golf Club
Huntercombe Golf Club (Unmanaged)

Huntercombe celebrated its Centenary in 2001, having formally opened in May 1901. It was designed by Willie Park Junior, winner of the Open Championship in 1887 and 1889 and the Course was an instant success. The distinguished American golfer, Walter Travis, visited Huntercombe on 11th August 1901 and reported "It was the finest inland course and one of the best tests he had seen......easily the best laid out links I have ever played over anywhere".

Over the years, the Course has changed very little from its original design and is considered by many as one of the finest inland courses in the country.

The fairways are always in immaculate condition, with their "immortal turf" and are a delight to play on. The greens are all of the finest quality, always running fast and true. The subtle contouring of most of the greens means that they offer golfers of all levels a fine examination of their putting skills and nerve.

The course is fairly flat, apart from the second and third holes, and therefore offers a very comfortable round for players of all ages. Members tend to play 2 ball games and are especially keen on foursomes, allowing just three hours (or less) for a game. Speed of play is important to Huntercombe and slow play is actively discouraged. The modern trend for four hour rounds is seen as an anathema to the Members of Huntercombe.

Directions
Huntercombe Golf Club is situated approximately 5 miles west of Henley-on-Thames, on the A4130 at Nuffield.

Having passed through Nettlebed going towards Wallingford, look out for the 40 mph speed restriction and then take the next left turn at the sign to Nuffield. There is also a sign for the golf club facing you. The road to Nuffield actually goes through the Course and the entrance to the Clubhouse is on the right, following the signpost towards Nuffield Church.

If you are coming from the Wallingford direction on the A4130, go past the Crown Pub on your right and take the next right turn, signposted to Nuffield.
