This picturesque 9 hole course is located 1000ft above sea level on the West Yorkshire Pennines, overlooking the village of Thornton, birthplace of the Bronte children Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne.
The course is set on the southern slope of the Pinch Beck Valley, which is dominated by the 120 foot high, 20 arch railway viaduct (now no longer in use), which was built circa 1880 to connect to the Bradford, Halifax and Keighley Railway. The picturesque mound upon which Headley is situated was inhabited at a very early part of British History by those warriors who painted themselves blue with woad" (Alan Whitworth. Thornton in Times Past). Nowadays the locals are much friendlier and always ready to have a round of golf with you |
