Club History:

The Glamorganshire Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Wales. Founded in 1890 with a grant of land from Lord Windsor, the Earl of Plymouth.

Over the last few years the club:-

• Played a leading role in the founding of the Welsh Golf Union.
• Hosted the Welsh Amateur Championship (twice) and the Welsh Ladies inaugural Championships.
• Provided three Welsh champions.
• Was the testing ground for the world renowned Stableford scoring system, devised by Dr. Frank Stableford. Provided the impetus and many founder members for the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. Brought the top professionals into South Wales for the first time.
• Provided the inspiration and expertise for the creation of several South Wales clubs, including Dinas Powis, Southerndown and Radyr.
• The course, originally 9 holes was extended to 18 for the 1897 Championships and by the 1930's, the club had firmly established itself as the champion club of Wales..

The world famous Barbarians rugby team visited the club between 1901 and 1996 as part of the traditional Easter weekend fixtures against Welsh Clubs.

Wing Commander Guy Gibson V.C. was also a member of the club.

Today, the Glamorganshire Golf Club is a highly successful and well run club with a course that can challenge golfers of all standards.
