Only an hour from Dublin Airport via the N6, it is ideally located for groups travelling west.

Nestled along the banks of the Grand Canal on it's route from Dublin to the Shannon, Castle Barna Golf club is on the edge of Daingean town, a town steeped in history and beauty. On arrival the beautiful stonework of the clubhouse gives a hint of the excellent quality of the club.

The greens are immaculately manicured and whether you are a high or low handicap golfer you will seldom make the same putt twice. The fairways are always in mint condition. The course is interspersed with many trees, some of which are hundreds of years old.

Each of the 18 holes on the course is known by it's own name. The first hole is called Croghan, a reference to Croghan Hill, a local place of worship in penal times. The long par 5 sixth hole is called the Tower, while the seventh, a short dog-leg par 5 is called the Reformatory, in which many people were incarcerated up to around 30 years ago. On the back nine we have the Pond (12th), the Milestone (14th) and Springs (17th).

The course plays 5,567 metres off the forward tees and 5,816 metres off the medal tees. The ladies tees measure the course at 4,716 metres. Standard scratch Medal 71, fwd 70, Ladies 69.

This course enjoys a great popularity with tourists, visitors and societies. Visiting members from other clubs enjoy the beauty of this excellent course and the friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse.

Back in the Clubhouse, one can enjoy excellent food after an appetitie creating round of golf. The in-house chef will prepare the traditional steak dinner while you sit with your wine or mineral water or indeed a pint of Guinness and savour the surroundings. The walls are adorned with beautiful paintings of the holes of Castle Barna course. Each one is painstakingly detailed by our local artist and member, Morris Bentick. The old paraphernalia on the shelves takes one back over a hundred years to life at the turn of the century.

The sight of a bodhran in the front area of the spacious lounge will give a suggestion of the many nights of music & craic.
