Since its re-design several years ago, this new par 73 course has matured into an excellent 18 hole venue.

Natural water hazards can catch you out with streams and a pond coming into play no fewer than 15 times in your round � maybe more for some! And the many new plantations around the course are becoming established, creating more problems for an erratic shot.

This easy walking, open parkland course is a picturesque spot high above the River Tees and presents stunning views of the surrounding Durham countryside.

Head Greenkeeper John Hinton and his staff work constantly to make sure this fine course is kept in superb condition, and they are ably directed by Sid Lowes and Malcolm McCallum.

From Scotland travelling South on the M6 come off at junction onto the A66 for Scotch Corner, continue on the A66 to Bowes, then follow the road sign posted Barnard Castle. You will enter Barnard Castle on a long straight road with a 'T' junction at the end. Turn right at the 'T' junction and left at the traffic lights, taking you over the county bridge. Over the bridge follow the road, which turns to the left and then goes up a steep hill, you are now into Barnard Castle's shopping streets, at the top you will come to a roundabout that has the Old Butter Mart at its centre (A Stone Circular Building that is one of Barnard Castle's famous land mark). Go straight on, taking you through the market town of Barnard Castle, the road bends right then goes up a slight incline. At the top of the incline the road bends right take the left turn that is on the bend, which is signposted Middleton-in-Teesdale, pass Glaxo-Smith-Kline on your right, pass the Red Well pub on your left, passing the next left turn into Harmire Enterprise Park, the next left is Barnard Castle Golf Club car park.

From the M6 North

Heading North on the M6 come off at Tebay junction 38 onto the A66, taking the A685 to Kirkby Stephen and Scotch Corner. Travel through Kirkby Stephen staying on the A685 till you cone to Brough, turn right onto the A66 following signs for Scotch corner onto the A66, continue on the A66 to Bowes, then follow the road sign posted Barnard Castle. After miles you will come to Barnard Castle off a long straight road to a 'T' junction at the end. From the A1 South

Take the Junction on the A1 at Scotch Corner and follow the A66 West following signs to Barnard Castle. The turn off for Barnard Castle is in the right lane of a section of dual carriageway. Once off the A66 you will follow a 'B' road to a set of traffic lights before a bridge. Turn right over the bridge and follow the road to the 'T' junction. Turn left a follow the road into town; at the end you will come to a roundabout that has an Old Butter Markt at its centre (A Stone Circular Building that is one of Barnard Castle's famous land mark). Turn right and go through the centre of the market town of Barnard Castle, the road bend right then goes up a slight incline. At the top of the incline the road bends right take the left turn on the bend, which is signposted Middleton-in-Teesdale, pass Glaxo-Smith-Kline on your right, pass the Red Well pub, passing the next left into Harmire Enterprise Park, the next left is Barnard Castle Golf Club car park.

South on the A1 .

Travelling South on the A1 you can take a number of junctions, the first is J62 where you need to follow signs for Spennymoor on the A688 then staying on the A688 to Bishop Auckland, the sign posts then continue on the A688 for West Auckland and Barnard Castle. As you come into Barnard Castle you come to a mini roundabout with a petrol station on the left, you need to turn right. You will then go down a slight incline with houses on either side of the road, the road bends left on the bend take the right turn, which is signposted Middleton-in-Teesdale, pass Glaxo-Smith-Kline on your right, pass the Red Well pub, passing the next left into Harmire Enterprise Park, the next left is Barnard Castle Golf Club car park.
