Auchterderran Golf Club (Unmanaged)

Auchterderran is an interesting nine-hole course set in the heart of Fife. It’s played mainly by locals and is a good ‘learner’ course although with undulating terrain, an ever present burn coupled with gorse, protruding rocks and thick heather, it is not easy by any stretch of the imagination.
The old Boarhill Pit is only a couple of hundred yards marking the one-time mining nature of this Fife community. This wiry old course opened in 1904 while the mining was at its peak and has changed little through the years.
The greens are small at Auchterderran and the burn that runs through the course runs red with minerals flowing from the old pit. You don’t need a driver on any hole here; it’s mainly iron shots. There are one or two blind holes. The Burma Road hole – the 5th might call for a 3-wood where there’s a bit of room angling down towards to the dyke. But always play for position and avoidance of trouble. There are lots of youngsters using the course and it’s always busy enough. |
