Athenry Golf Club located mid way between Athenry and Oranmore at the townland of Palmerstown.

Athenry Golf Club is a mixture of parkland and heathland built on a limestone base against the backdrop of a large forest giving excellent drainage and remaining playable all year round.

Celebrating its centenary in 2002 this pleasant test of Golf on the outskirts of Galway City offers a challenge for golfers of all standards on a course which is uncrowded mid-week.

Extended to 18 holes in 1991 under the guidance of renowned architect Eddie Hackett and further improvements in recent years by Eddie Connaughton have led to the Club hosting recent Provincial and National championships.

Modern clubhouse with a friendly atmosphere gives excellent views of much of the course and adjoining famous "Fields of Athenry".

Feature holes are 3 par 3’s in the adjoining wood with the signature 12th hole of 193 yards from an elevated tee amongst a corridor of beech and pine trees one of most challenging and scenic holes to be seen throughout Ireland

Directions

From the East:

Stay on N6 until approx. 5 km past Craughwell. At junction for R348 for Athenry turn right. Under railway bridge, (1/2 km after turn) Take next left and left again, Golf Club on right side, approx 100yds.

From Galway

Take dual carriageway N6 out of Galway and follow directions for Dublin, past Oranmore to 2nd roundabout past Quality Hotel. Take N6 for Dublin, 1ST exit, travel for 5km, Turn left on R348 for Athenry. Under railway bridge, (1/2 km after turn) Take next left and left again ,Golf Club on right side, approx 100yds.

From the South:

On N18 from Limerick, take 3rd exit, N6 for Dublin, on 1st roundabout, 6km past Clarinbridge, travel for 5km. Turn left on R348 for Athenry. Under railway bridge, (1/2 km after turn) Take next left and left again, Golf Club on right side, approx 100yds.

From the North:

On N17 take left turn at church in Claregalway onto N18. Travel for 10 km to roundabout at Quality Hotel. Take 1st exit on N6 for Dublin, at next roundabout take N6 for Dublin, 1ST exit, travel for 5km. Turn left on R348 for Athenry. Under railway bridge, (1/2 km after turn) Take next left and left again, Golf Club on right side, approx 100yds.
